Semiclassical Methods

We are interested in developing efficient semiclassical techniques for quantum propagation of wave packets and other states. We pioneered the use of "frozen" Gaussians that have become the workhorse of modern semiclassical propagation in the guise of the Heller-Herman-Kluk-Kay (HHKK or HK) propagator. Active research is currently centred around Wigner-based semiclassical techniques that led to development of the Dephasing Relation as well as dynamically evolving basis sets, especially "thawed Gaussians" (TGA).

Also of interest are semiclassical studies of  decoherence, fidelity, Loschmidt echo, replacement manifolds, semiclassical uniformization of homoclinic tangles, and similarity transformed semiclassical dynamics.
